About John Bennett, MD

Welcome. I’m Dr. John Bennett and as a pediatrician I specialize in the care of children and adolescents.

My undergraduate education was at Brigham Young University. I then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin. There I graduated Alpha Omega Alpha, an honor offered to the top ten percent of my medical school class. I returned to Utah and trained at Primary Children’s Hospital in general pediatrics. I received the Pediatric Practice Award, which is given by vote of the faculty indicating the resident doctor to whom they would take their own children. I take pride in educating families how to avoid problems, both physical and emotional, which may detract from optimum health and life enjoyment.

I have seen many beautiful things on planet earth but nothing more spectacular than my own six children. Ranging from 24 years to 8 years old. My fabulous offspring have brought me great joy and have taught me many valuable lessons to help me in my work over the last 20 years as a Pediatrician. My greatest joy is spending time with my own family - we love baseball, basketball, golf, camping, hiking, fishing, rafting and biking. Our family loves feeling close by reading a good book together each day. My passion is to help others realize the same joy I have experienced through raising healthy and happy children.

Observing, participating in and teaching parents about the development of children, including physical, emotional, social, and cognitive aspects of life, fascinate me. There is nothing more miraculous than the birth of a newborn baby. Each stage in life brings new challenges and parents have a key role in helping their children mature and develop in a healthy manner. I find great satisfaction in assisting parents to guide their children through each stage of advancement toward a competent adult life.

I hope my patients never have problems and try to educate towards prevention as much as possible. However, when problems arise I feel very comfortable dealing with the vast majority of disease processes children might encounter. I have a particular interest in sports medicine, as I believe participation in sports is a wonderful way children can learn character traits, social skills and enhanced self-esteem. I have completed all the American College of Sports Medicine team physician training courses. My second interest is mental health related conditions such as ADHD (attention deficit disorder), anxiety and depression, education struggles, learning disabilities, and behavior problems. Youth are increasingly challenged with mental health issues in school and daily lifeand over my 20 years of practice I have treated hundreds of children and adolescents for such problems.

As a pediatric specialist in caring for children and adolescents, I have a unique advantage of appreciating and understanding the complexity of the entire human organism and how disease processes can affect functioning on multiple levels. I enjoy handling complex problems involving many different levels of dysfunction including the physical, mental, social and emotional aspects of health and helping people feel better, function better, enjoy life and thrive. I am very competent at most common childhood ailments and handle them on a daily basis.

I believe in using the simplest and least expensive remedy to recovery without medicalizing patients or making them feel over dependent on the health care system in the use of tests, medicine or procedures. I work hard to help parents feel competent to care for their children and avoid creating an anxious dependency on the medical system. If you need someone to teach you about your child’s development and resiliency, help you know when your child doesn’t need to see a doctor, teach you how to care for self–limited illness at home, or get you better when there is physical or mental illness that needs physician intervention, then I’m here for you.
