John S. Taylor, MD
Dr. John Taylor enjoys providing a full spectrum of family medicine. He has delivered hundreds of babies, sees children for both well and sick visits, and enjoys providing adults with preventative care as well as treating complex medical illnesses. He has a particular interest in evidence based medicine and enjoys staying current with advances in medical science.
Dr. Taylor was literally born into Canyon View Medical Group. Dr. Enoch Ludlow, one of the founding members of Canyon View Medical Group, was the Taylor’s family physician. Dr. Ludlow should have delivered John, but according to family legend was showing sheep at the Davis County Fair at the time of delivery. Dr. Ludlow made up for this by later serving as John’s scoutmaster.
John’s parents, Richard and Lucille Taylor, raised their family in Spanish Fork. He also has deep roots in Springville, as his grandmother Josephine Crandall was born and raised in the “Art City.” John was lured to the University of Utah with a Presidential Scholarship and then served an LDS mission to South Korea. He returned to the U of U and finished his undergraduate studies in political science focusing on mental health public policy. He married Erika Washburn from Mapleton just before graduation.
He went on to attend the University of Utah School of Medicine. During his third year, he was able to spend 8 weeks on a clinical rotation back home in Spanish Fork and was able to see his “home town doctors” from a new perspective. He was impressed with their excellent clinical skills, and was amazed at the deep connections those physicians had established with their patients, many of whom were neighbors and considered friends.
This exposure to a group of excellent family physicians tightly integrated with their community influenced him to choose Family Medicine as his specialty. In 1999 he completed his Family Medicine residency in Waukesha, Wisconsin where he was also selected to serve as Chief Resident. He has been working in Springville for the last 10 years and has enjoyed becoming part of the Springville community. He and his wife Erika spend their spare time hiking, camping, skiing, biking, and raising future Springville High School Red Devils.
